Sunday Fitness Walk: City and Pyrmont Circle + Blackwattle Bay! 20 km (Medium)
We will meet at the exit to Museum Railway Station at 10:00 AM.
From there we head into town through local parks and roads and enter Hyde Park at its southern edge. Passing the ANZAC War Memorial, we pause to check out the very large statue of Captain James Cook, the Archibald Fountain and the new statue of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, said to be to Australia as General George Washington is to the USA.
Into the Botanic Garden, we head for Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's then through Millers Point, to enter the sparkly-new Barangaroo Headland Park, where we pause, atop Stargazer Lawn, to soak in the majesty of it all!
After a quick inspection of the rest of Barangaroo we head to Pyrmont and take on a tour of the new built and historic wharves of this little explored urban gem of a suburb. We stop on Sydney Wharf for lunch, about 3 hours into the walk. THERE ARE NO SHOPS AT OUR LUNCH STOP, SO PLEASE BRING FOOD.
Refreshed, we continue through a complex of historic wharves, promenades and stairs, that land us on the ANZAC Bridge which we cross and drop into Blackwattle Bay. After skirting the foreshore of Blackwattle Bay, we saunter through Wentworth Park, some local roads and re-enter Darling Harbour, passing the Chinese Friendship Gardens, ending our Long March at The Sanctuary Hotel where Members can gather for a tasty end-of-walk-beer!
Town Hall Railway Station is a hundred meters away.
We should conclude this walk by bout 4:00 PM.
Distance: 20 km
Type of Walk: This urban trail is incredibly rich in the wonderful detail of our beautiful City! About one third is along local roads, two thirds through parks, gardens and harbour promenades.
