Saturday Fitness!! Homebush to Parramatta via Newington 18 KM (Medium)
We meet at Homebush Railway Station by 10:40AM and use Powells Creek to navigate our way into Sydney Olympic Park where we explore Bicentennial Park, the Waterbird Refuge, Wentworth Common, and the Brick Pit and Haslams Creek through to Newington (the Athletes Village, from the Sydney Olympic Games, 2000) for lunch AND clean bathrooms, at 10km in. PLENTY OF TASTY FOOD OPTIONS AT THIS LOCATION OR MEMBERS CAN EAT YOUR PACKED LUNCH IN THE PARK.
After lunch, we head out past Silverwater Prison and check out Newington Armory before heading for Parramatta along newly improved pathways, which lead directly to Parramatta ferry wharf and Parramatta Railway station, 1km further on.
This walk is a real surprise packet, not to be missed.
Distance: 18kms
Type of Walk: This walk is mainly flat and along various river systems which will look wonderful at this time of year.
Difficulty: Medium. The are plenty of get-out points.
Walking Pace: We will maintain 4.5 km per hour.
Meeting Place and Transport: Meet at Homebush Railway Station, by 10:40AM; as a guide the regular train service from Central, the T1, arrives at 10:31AM. Please gather outside the main station exit station on The Crescent.
What to bring: Good walking shoes/boots or trainers; 1.5 litres of water, refill at Newington; hydrolytes; one snack and one lunch; light rain jacket depending on conditions; sunscreen and a cap or hat with a wide brim. MEMBERS CAN PURCHASE LUNCH AT NEWINGTON, IF DESIRED.
