What we’re about

What is the best way to celebrate the end of a week? A night at the movies! This is a semi-regular social group for LGBTQIAP+, gender diverse, queer folks, and allies who would like to get together at the end of a workday or on the weekends for light-hearted friendly chats, and a bite to eat followed by a movie. Cinema location may vary event-to-event, but we usually try to stick to inner city areas.

We are an intersectional, non-gatekeeping community, and value your safety and comfort over all else. Singles, couples and friends of all ages are welcome, please RSVP early as group sizes will be limited. This is a chance to celebrate your week, connect with community, relax with friends, and watch a movie. Hope to see you there!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: How often do you meet?
A: We are trying to get back to our regular, re-occuring monthly meetups, though meetups are still fairly ad-hoc at the moment.

Q: If I've already seen the movie, can I join you for dinner only?
A: Yes - you are more than welcome, as long as there are spaces free.

Q: How does ticketing work, do I purchase my own ticket?
A: Yes - you will need to organise your own ticket for the selected session. In the days prior to the meetup, please ensure you check for updates, as the movie session and seating allocation will be confirmed. We recommend that you book ahead of time to get your preferred seat, but you can also buy tickets at the cinema as well, as long as they're still available.

Movie discounts are available through Telstra (via login to your account - 'Thanks Movies'), and by becoming an Event Cinebuzz rewards member, as we are often using their venues.

Q: Can I invite friends?
A: Yes - you are more than welcome to bring a friend with you. Please indicate this on your RSVP. If you are a group, please ask each member to RSVP separately, so that we can keep track of numbers. Please do not re-post our meetups to any other meetup groups without permission.

Q: How do you select what movie to watch?
A: We will sometimes vote to find the most popular film, but often it comes down to other factors such as the start time or host availability. On rare occasion, we may split into two groups if two popular films are commencing at a similar time.

Q: Do you run other meetups outside of watching a movie?
A: Most of our events involve a movie, but again on rare occasion, we do meet for other events. We welcome all suggestions for future meetups!
