Sydney Sailboat Crew Meetup

This is a great way to start your sailing expierence as my yacht is only small the first three in get to play on my yacht and being a Friday Night Twilight if you dont get a sail with me there are many other yachts who will take you
IF MY YACHT IS FULL WALK ALONG THE WHARF AND ASK YACHTS FOR A RIDE YOU WILL BE SURE TO GET ONE THERE IS ALSO A CREW NOTICE BOARD NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE BAR WHERE YOU CAN SEE BOATS LOOOKING FOR CREW
MY REGULAR CREW WILL GET FIRST PREFERANCE
IF I CAN'T TAKE YOU ON MY YACHT WITH A MAXIUM NUMBER ALLOWED FOR SAFETY YOU WILL SAIL ON OTHER YACHTS IF THEY FOLLLOW DIRECTIONS BELOW
RANSA is situated in the Sir David Martin Reserve the club house is opposite 46 New beach RD Darling Point

PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON THE CREW NOTICE BOARD SITUATED AT THE FRONT OF THE CLUB OR EVEN BETTER WALK DOWN THE WHARF AND ASK YACHTS ALONG SIDE IF THEY HAVE ROOM TO TAKE YOU

These races are run right through Summer and are quite a social event on return we have a the Navy Bear Cafe serving tasty meals whilst we partake in refreshments awaiting the days racing results these are great races for beginners right through to the experienced sailer many sailers have made life long friends and some have gone on to do Sydney to Hobarts

I DON'T JUST HAVE CREW IN THIS EVENT FROM MEETUP. If only 2 people are showing on Meetup, those are myself and one person from Meetup. On any sailing day, there may also be my regular crew or people I have introduced through the Facebook Crew Finder. However, my small yacht never carries more than four in total.
If the event is full make sure you join the wait list I move people around to going if there really keen and learning well or if someone drops out

1. AS IM LOOKING FOR GENUINE PEOPLE WANTING TO LEARN HOW TO SAIL WHICH WILL TAKE SOME MONTHS PREFER PEOPLE STAYING IN SYDNEY AT LEAST 12 MONTHS EVEN BETTER IF YOU LIVE HERE

3. For safety reasons, you must be able to SWIM OR AT LEAST FLOAT and be comfortable on water.
4. ITS VERY SELDOM SOMEONE WOULD FALL IN ONE IN FORTY YEARS.
5. 5,Also for safety reasons, you must be able to understand and speak English to enable you to react quickly to a whole new vocabulary of words that you will need to learn

Each Sunday I run training days to find ONGOING CREW. I'm looking for people LATE TEENS THROUGH TO LATE 30S who are looking for a fun, competitive sport. Unfortunately I need to make decisions that are best for my boat as, when racing, I only carry a crew of 4, who MUST be fit and agile. This is vital to enable you to move quickly around a small yacht when it heels (leans over) as much as 30 degrees and be ready to sit with your legs over the rail after tacking (changing course).
My yacht wins in most seasons and I'm extremely competitive. We DO NOT carry crew who just sit on the rail, and you must be willing to work as a team.

PLEASE REMEMBER YOU’RE COMING TO BE TAUGHT HOW TO SAIL SO I NEED TO POINT OUT A FEW THINGS FOR SAFETY REASONS

1. Wear clothes suitable for sailing – MOST IMPORTANT – rubber, soft-soled shoes with good grip. NO THONGS OR BARE FEET!
2. If you have long hair, TIE IT UP
3. Glasses and hats need to be tied with cord or similar – I’ve seen so many disappear overboard.
4. If you have sailing or gym gloves, bring them to protect hands from rope burn.
5. 5 Strong advice - please remove rings from fingers, and super-long nails really hurt when bent or caught
   6.If your a poor swimmer i suggest you obtain a life jacket i have life jackets on board in case of a emergency but the are bulky and hard to move in

ALTHOUGH WE WILL BE RACING WEDNESDAY ARE NON SPINNAKER AND CAN BE EASILY DONE BEGINNING AS COMPLETE NOVICES
MY AIM RIGHT THROUGH SUMMER YOU WILL BECOME PART OF MY ON-GOING CREW DURING WHICH YOU WILL BECOME COMPETENT AT SAILING MANY OF MY CREW OVER THE YEARS AFTER ARRIVING FROM INTERSTATE OR OVER SEAS HAVE STARTED ON WEDNESDAYS AND NOW HAVE DONE THERE OWN HOBART SOME OWN THERE OWN YACHTS
. They sail on weekends and sometimes end up owning their own yachts and even doing their own Sydney to Hobarts. As long as you have a love of all things on the water, on-board training will be given to good people.

MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE! MY AIM IS TOO PASS ON YEARS OF EXPIERIENCE

We will be racing but many of my crew have started as complete novices
Over the many years I have sailed, many new crew members have started on Wednesdays after arriving here from overseas or do shift work and get Wednesday afternoon off . All have become great friends sometimes ending up owning their own yachts and even doing their own Sydney to Hobarts. As long as you have a love of all things on the water, on-board training will be given to good people.
