Details

Hi, everyone. This time we're having "something for everyone" night with 3 talks on different aspects of game development and of different technical levels.

We will start with a technical talk:

Rethinking Prefabs - how the new prefab workflow will change your approach to Unity development. The upcoming Unity 2018.3 will introduce an all new prefab workflow. Prefab nesting, prefab variants and the new prefab inspector allows greater control and speed when constructing your prefabs. This talk will cover each of these concepts in detail, and a demonstration will reveal how this workflow can be applied to benefit your own project's structure.
The speaker Tom Williams is an independent game developer with over 5 years experience in the local games industry. He has developed games and applications using Unity for desktop, consoles, mobile and mixed reality.

We will continue with a management and soft skills talk "How to make and launch your own mobile game not giving up the 9 to 5 job"
In this 20 minute talk, Andrew Grischenko will share his experience of making 2 mobile games "Buttons Match" and "Coin Match" with his partner artist. Games are low budget, do-it-yourself everything including marketing, and all of it was done by them while working regular daily 9 to 5 jobs. Andrew will show you some numbers and data, and share some secrets, dos and don'ts on how they got through the difficult stages.

Our last talks is about "The Power of Why". Game designer with 11 years experience, Emilie Poissenot has developed games in a wide variety of genres, platforms, scopes and business models across three continents. She led the design team of "The Sims FreePlay" at EA Melbourne, and she was a Game Director at Buy Somewhere.
Twice nominee on the Trade Media Women in Games list, and the host of the Sydney's chapter of Get That Game Done, Emilie wants to help diverse teams collaborate on the best creative solutions to develop amazing games.
Whether trying to design a game, interacting with her colleagues or managing a team, one of her favourite set of tools are variations on asking (or answering) a question "why?" She'll show you how to wield them to bring focus to your creativity, and efficiency to your communications - so you have easier time completing your game projects.

See you all on August 30th. Doors open at 6pm. Talks start at 6:30.

Please note that the entrance to Atlassian is not from George street, but from Wynyard street - just opposite Woolworth Metro.

Call or message me if you're late, and I'll come down to get you.
