What we’re about
The Sydney Video Technology meetup is for anyone interested in the underlying technology behind video and video publishing: streaming, transcoding, codecs, advertising, playback, open standards, mobile, connected tv and more. We will focus on the engineering side and not the creative side, but creatives are welcome.

Talks
Chris Miceli – Principal Engineer @ Canva - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-miceli-51a0345b/
“Misunderstandings of Distributed Video Processing”Chris is Principal Engineer on Canva’s Media Platform team, working on the systems that power video creation and playback at scale. Before Canva he spent seven years at Facebook on the Video Infrastructure team, focused on ingest, encoding, storage and delivery of Live and non-Live Video. He’ll share common pitfalls in distributed video pipelines — where assumptions about ordering, scaling and reliability break down — and what patterns actually help when moving pixels across distributed systems.
Kevin Staunton-Lambert – Video Engineer / Low-Latency Streaming Specialist - https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevleyski/
“Decoding the Undecodable”Kevin has a background across Rust, C/C++, WASM, XR and low-latency streaming. He’s contributed to standards, has the coolest home brew website and worked deeply with video optimisation, browser pipelines and experimental codecs. His talk will explore live experiments in decoding video across runtimes — for example, decoding in Chrome and attempting to re-decode in a V8 instance without codec support. It’s part hack, part demo, and a glimpse into pushing the boundaries of video in the browser.
