Topic | What is "value" for artists?
In short, "value" can be thought of in two key ways: what are the benefits of doing something artistic, and what are the finances involved. Benefits can include developing skill, growing your network, building a fan base, having fun, earning money or upgrading your CV — these are all forms of value. Finances might sound simple, but beyond how much you earn per hour or per job, there's complexity in understanding your financial worth and how the market impacts this, and complexity in the various ways you can be paid, such as cash VS residuals.
