An Evening at the Steam Plant: Beyond Bach
Details
Let's do something weird: A classical music concert at the Georgetown Steam Plant.
The Georgetown Steam Plant was built in 1906 to supply energy for the region's electric streetcar system. It was decommissioned in 1977, and is now entering a second act as a community resource and iconic space for STEM events and the arts.
The artist is cellist Arabella Schwerin. You can learn more about her here: Arabella Schwerin.
Event description: Experience a classic like Bach cello suite 1 in the most resonant way possible at the Georgetown Steam Plant and open your mind to the possibilities of what the cello is capable of in such a space. Bella will be taking you on a tour of musical time periods with much emphasis on current music, especially female composed.
Imagine the sound of the cello rising and falling through the intricate web of industrial pipes, its deep resonance echoing off the concrete and metal machinery. This is more than a concert; it's a conversation between the past and the present—an intimate moment where the delicate strength of the cello finds an epic stage, reminding us that art, like industry, is always evolving.
Doors open at 6:00 PM and will close promptly at 7:00 PM.
Bella's performance will begin at 7:00pm. We will meet at the entry at 6:30 pm, and the concert is estimated to end at 9 pm.
Parking: If our parking lot is full, there is plenty of parking in the King County parking lot outside the Steam Plant! Please be mindful and do not park in front of garage doors or entry ways leading into the surrounding buildings, or block the entry gate leading to Boeing Field—vehicles will be towed.
