Meet other people (of all ages) interested in learning Okinawa style taiko drumming and/or dance. Have an interest in music, practicing Japanese, getting in your steps, and/or learning a new cultural dance or drumming? Welcome!
1:00-2:00 kids (toddlers and up) taiko session
2:00-5:00 learn taiko or dance
5:00-6:00 potluck
The demographic: mostly people of Okinawan ancestry or people with a connection or interest in Okinawa culture.
Families with kids that want to meet other families with younger-older kids? Yes! High school/college age that want to learn taiko or Okinawa music? Yes! 30 or 40 something and want to hang out with other people that speak a mix of Japanese, Uchinaaguchi (okinawan language), and English? Yes!
Want to hang out with other obaas or ojiis? Yes! Have a sanshin in the back of the closet that your mom gave you but don't know how to use? Bring it with you and we will show you!
We just ask (if you aren't a student) to help out with the room rental since we are just bunch of volunteers getting together to hang out and do all this music, so a donation of $5 cash the day of would be super appreciated!
