What we’re about
Tacoma Outdoors Adventures is a social group focused on enjoying the great outdoors, from hiking and camping to biking and snowshoeing and more. We welcome members of all skill and experience levels, the main requirement is just wanting to get out and enjoy the outdoors with others. This is a great group to get out there and do the things you enjoy and meet others who do as well. Many of our members have made friendships that carry beyond our posted events.
What we’re not...
We’re not just an “outdoor” group. We like to do other things; movie nights, dinners, bbq’s, wine tasting, dancing, and more.
We’re not just Tacoma. While a large number of our members are from Tacoma and the immediately surrounding area, we have members that join us on a regular basis from Olympia, Bremerton, Auburn and other areas. We've grown, but Tacoma is where we got our start and most of our events continue to be planned with the idea that we’re leaving from the Tacoma area.
We’re not a “hook up” group. While our group is primarily comprised of members who are single, this is not a dating site. We have a great mix of singles, couples, and families that share a common love of the outdoors. Many of us joined this group after moving to the area from other parts of the country and it's been a great way to meet others with common interests and make lasting friendships.
Respect for each other is of the utmost importance. Failure to do so my result in the leadership team issuing a warning. If there’s a second occurrence, the leadership team reserves the right to remove the member from the group, and will refund any dues paid within the last 6 month.
Belonging is not a right, but a privilege.
Profiles: A true profile photo is required for security purposes. This is to minimize opportunities for spam and internet spoofing. Also, being able to see you in your profile photo makes it much easier to connect when meeting for events.
Annual dues: There is a modest $5 annual dues to join the group. The dues are primarily to cover the fees charged by Meetup. The amount of dues collected annually will be analyzed and if there is a surplus we will look at making a donation of an outdoor related charitable organization and/or using funds to help organize a group-wide event such as a picnic or open house type event.
New members are given a 30 day trial. We feel this is more than enough time to attend at least one or two events to help decide if we’re a fit for you. If the dues have not been paid by the end of that 30 day period your membership will be suspended until they are paid. Suspended accounts are removed after 60 days.
Event Coordinators: All members are event coordinators. This means if you want to organize an event you can and are actually encouraged to! No events aimed at selling to the members (ie Avon, MaryKay, Tupperware parties.) Please keep it on theme with Fitness, Outdoors, and/or Social.
Carpools are often organized and those riding should be prepared to help with gas and pass expenses. $5 to $10 is often common, depending on how far away the destination is. Also be prepared with a change of shoes/outerwear and a bag to put muddy/wet gear in for the ride home.
Thanks for checking us out, I hope you decide to join us on one of our upcoming adventures!
Disclaimer: Our event organizers are not professional hike leaders/guides. We simply set up hikes and other adventures and help facilitate carpooling. Our members are adults and expected to act as such - know your limitations, be prepared (ie. the 10 essentials), leave no trace and treat each other with respect. Participation in our activities is at your own risk. By participating, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Tacoma Outdoors, its organizers and other members from all claims or liability of every type (including court costs and legal fees) for injury or death to any person or for damage to property, loss of personal property or any other wrongful act arising out of or relating to your participation as a member. This agreement applies to you and to other persons (as your guests) who may accompany you on these adventures.

See all- Snowshoe to The Castle SaddleBethel Station, Spanaway, WA
Snowshoe to The Castle Saddle
Tatoosh Range
Location : Mt. Rainier Nat'l. Park – South of Paradise
Length: approx. 3 miles, roundtrip,
Elevation Gain: approx. 1860 ft.
National Park Pass
We will park at Reflection Lakes (or as close as we can get), and then climb to the saddle on the ridge line of the Tatoosh Range just east (possibly west) of The Castle. We will NOT be following the Pinnacle Peak trail. This is a challenging route on snowshoes, but can also be done with just good, sturdy hiking boots.
PLEASE NOTE: Destination and/or route may change depending on road closures, snow or trail conditions, and/or weather. Event may be cancelled if the weather is bad.
We should have good views to the south and north from any of these spots (except Rampart Ridge, which is almost entirely in the trees), given a little decent weather. On the return trip, we will descend the same route back to Reflection Lakes, but then take the (probably snow covered) road back to Inspiration Point, thence back to the parking lot. Bring snowshoes, poles, microspikes, sunscreen, lunch, 10 essentials, layers of clothing, and all the other usual suspects on this hike. You might consider bringing goggles if it's forecast to be windy. If the weather is bad I may postpone the trip to another date.
We will carpool from Bethel Station in Spanaway, meeting in the parking lot behind the Burger King, west of the big Fred Meyer store. This location is on Mountain Highway (aka Pacific Ave.; aka WA Hwy 7) on the south side of Spanaway, between 22nd Avenue East and 224th Street East, on the east side of the highway. The address for the Fred Meyer store is: 22303 Mountain Hwy E, Spanaway, WA 98387.
Please be at Bethel Station for car-pooling prior to 7:30 AM so we can leave right at 7:30. If people coming from Tacoma proper want to carpool from the Lakewood I-5/WA-512 Park-'n-Ride, we can set up a secondary car pool from that location.
Driving Directions: South on SR 7 to Elbe. From Elbe, head east on State Route 706 for about 14 miles to the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Continue up the road to Narada Falls. The gate at Longmire opens at 9 AM, so we will want to have used the restrooms at Longmire and be in our cars ready to go right at 9 AM.
