Welcome to TAG Cybersecurity, a community group of Technology Alliance Group for Northwest Washington (TAGNW). This is a group for anyone interested in the wide spectrum of cybersecurity topics. All knowledge and skill levels are welcome.

TAG Cybersecurity: March 2021 "Cybersecurity at a Regulated Utility"

Join TAG Cybersecurity on March 16 @ 7 pm for our monthly meeting. Michael Hall, Network Security Engineer at Puget Sound Energy will present "Cybersecurity at a Regulated Utility".

Mike will discuss what cybersecurity is like at a Regulated Utility, how the work may differ from what happens at unregulated businesses, what the special risks and threats are, and the ways it is different from what he expected going in.

This is part One of a two-part series of talks on cybersecurity of electrical utilities and the electric grid.

TAG Cybersecurity: April 2021 "Power Grid and Cyber Risk"

Join TAG Cybersecurity on April 20 @ 7 pm for our monthly meeting. Vivek Ponnada, Service Manager for GE in Vancouver, BC, will talk about the power grid and cyber risk in the second event of our mini-series on cybersecurity of electrical utilities and the power distribution grid.

Vivek Ponnada works for GE as a Service Manager and is based out of
Vancouver, BC. In his current role, Vivek is responsible for GE's Gas
Power transactional customers (Utilities and Cogeneration) across
Canada. Prior to that, he was in Sales & Business development (Control
system upgrades and Cybersecurity solutions in the US South and
Mid-West), and started his career as a Field Engineer, commissioning
controls systems in Europe, Middle-East and South East Asia. Vivek is
passionate about industrial controls cybersecurity and enjoys learning
& contributing to the security community. He still watches Texas
Longhorns Football eagerly but gave up on the Houston Texans.

Vivek will start with a description of the power grid - diverse generation sources to transmission to distribution. Then he'll look at the reliability of the electricity network and interconnections in North America. Next he'll dive into cybersecurity risks in the electricity sector and touch on current regulations, then close with a look at predicting the future of electrical distribution.
