Cienega to the Dam from Vail Access
Details
No designated trail. The creek might be running and there might be a scramble to get by weeds and debris. We will hike to the check dam. There are also Morteros to find up on the cliffs. Distance: 4 miles, out and back. Elevation gain: minimal. Pace: a slow to moderate pace.
I have acquired a permit for a specific number of people.
Directions and Parking: Coming from Old Spanish Trail: Turn right on Camino Loma Alta. When you reach Colossal Cave Road make another right. Go slow. Turn left after the bridge over Pantano Wash on Colossal Cave Rd. There are 3 black and yellow highway markers there. There is a dirt parking lot down the small hill. Turn around at the Walgreen's if you miss it.
Directions coming from Tucson on I-10: Take the Colossal Cave Exit 279. Cross over the highway and drive through Vail, down the hill and turn right at the Walgreen’s. Slow down and drive to the Colossal Cave bridge. Turn right onto the Vail Access dirt road that leads down a short hill. Park here.
