Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead
Details
This is one of Thomas' events. I am re-posting as it looked like a favorite of the group.
From the Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead we will travel north on the Arizona trail towards Colossal Cave. Just one hour out and one hour back (2 hours total). This will be a relatively easy hike at slightly above Tucson elevation. There are cottonwoods and possible water. Expect your puppy to get wet, sandy and dirty. Good bird watching opportunities.
Safety Alert! There is a crossing of Marsh Station Road during the hike. Please put your dog on a leash while navigating this cross walk.
Meet/Park at:
The Gabe Zimmerman Davidson Canyon Trailhead
16248 E Marsh Station Rd, Vail, AZ 85641
This parking lot provides access to the Cienega Creek Natural Preserve, Davidson Canyon and the Arizona Trail. This trailhead has room for 22 vehicles and 8 horse rigs. Dogs are allowed on leash.
-You must be in control of your dog(s) at all times and they must be leashed when departing and approaching trailheads. Leashes should be a fixed length of 6' or less (if you use a retractable leash set it to a length of 6' or less). If you choose to unleash you dog(s) it must not disturb others.
-The most important equipment for our hikes is a small day pack to carry your water, dog bowl, snacks, first aid, etc. I prefer camelback backpacks but any small backpack will work. Hiking boots are also recommended.
-Bring 2-3 liters of water for yourself and an additional 1-2 liters of water for your dog(s). If you are not familiar with the amount of water you and your dog(s) need, err on the side of bringing extra.
-We hike as a group. No one gets left behind. So for the enjoyment of all, and so we do not worry about you, know your limitations on the trail as well as your pup. Keep us informed of anything that might interfere with your ability to complete the hike.
-If you leave the hike for any reason you MUST let someone else on the hike know!
-All hikes are done at your own risk.
