A message from DORA, PACK LEADER about summer schedule of events

Details

Just a quick message to let you know that we are officially on SUMMER SCHEDULE. Our event calendar may look a little bare right now, but we sure hope to remedy that as we go along. This happens every summer. We always come back strong sometime in October, when it cools off.

HIKING: The ticks are out and they're bad! There will be no more hikes on wooded trails until we get a good freeze. We can still do some of our parks, like Queeny, Route 66, Simpson Lake/River Walk and Zombie Road. As long as it's not too hot, we'll try to schedule at least one walk each weekend, but not a lot of variety. We will not hike in temps over 80 degrees.

Of course, we'll still do our Castlewood Creek Walk every Thursday. We can do that in the hottest of hot weather.

KAYAKING: We will also try to schedule a kayak trip each week. The rivers should stop flooding sometime soon, so we can have a little variety. Until the Meramec settles down, we're pretty much stuck with Simpson and Creve Coeur Lake. Heat doesn't bother us on the water, we can kayak in 100 degree temps.

Most events are going to be planned about a week in advance, and will be totally weather-dependent. No sense loading up the calendar and then cancelling everything because of the weather.

Hang in there, we'll be back in the fall with our usual busy schedule on our favorite trails.
