SUNDAY KAYAKING ON THE RIVER. Pacific to Allenton

Please read entire writeup.
A few big SHUTTLE CHANGES from last year.

Our favorite in-town float, not too long and beautiful scenery and beaches. Mostly easy, plenty of quiet water, and some minor obstacles. This is the run that has the huge beach that we see from Glassberg observation deck.

Big storms predicted Friday night, Also storms Saturday night. Light wind and good current for Sunday! We can reschedule for Saturday, if this changes, but Sunday looks like the pick day. Stay in touch before heading out, this float is weather dependent.

About 8 miles, allow 5 hours. Probably 3.5 hours of paddling, but we stop a lot. Allow time, we're not going to be in a hurry and we will stop whenever we want to, or whenever needed. Bring light lunch for our big sandbar at mid point. We goof off as much as we paddle on this one, lots of sandbars. If you want to power down the river, you won't like our group. We play a lot. Our dogs get hot too, so we'll stop a lot to cool the pups.

Please leash your dog when we stop for lunch. They can play at other times, as long as they play nice.

If your dog is reactive to other dogs, please do not sign up. It's no place for a dog fight. Our dogs are all well behaved and get along with other dogs. They are off leash and get to play on sandbars.

There will be some bigger boats, but usually not many. If we stay to the side of the river and out of their way, they're usually very nice to us. Sometimes some Asian Carp in the little creek up to the barge. I've had a big carp land in my kayak, and Kelly got hit in the back of her head by a big one.

B.Y.O.BOAT, we don't have rentals.
No Intex "greenies" or foldables on our river runs. You need an upgraded inflatable or a hardshell kayak, at least 10' long.

LIFE JACKETS: Dogs and people must wear their PFD at all times. We're not equipped or qualified to rescue you. Be safe, so the rest of us can stay safe.

NEW SHUTTLE PLANS: THE LITTLE ONE-LANE BRIDGE IS CLOSED AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED. WE NOW HAVE TO DRIVE TO 109 AND BACKTRACK TO ALLENTON ROAD AREA TO SHUTTLE. THIS WILL ADD ABOUT 7 MILES EACH WAY TO OUR SHUTTLE. BE PATIENT, WE'LL HAVE TO SEE HOW IT GOES THE FIRST TIME. HOPEFULLY, EVERYONE WILL JUST BRING AN INFLATABLE, IT WILL SAVE US 45 MINUTES OR SO ON STARTUP SHUTTLE.

Comment below if you have inflatable or hardshell and if you have a dog (include size). Shuttling is a trick with the dogs.

HARDSHELLS meet at put in (Pacific) and unload. Wait for inflatables to arrive to guard kayaks. We'll be there by 9:45. Then everyone drives to take out, leave as many cars as possible, and come back in one or two cars. A couple of us will stay to guard the kayaks. Be sure you have at least one other hardshell shuttle car that can haul 2 kayaks. COMMUNICATE! DON'T BE LATE!

INFLATABLES meet at takeout (Allenton) by 9:00. We'll pile as many people/dogs/kayaks as possible into a car or two and drive to put in. Then the hardshell people will have to shuttle their cars, as outlined above. This is how we used to do it, before we got a bunch of hardshells. If you have an inflatable, bring it.

RSVPs will close Saturday evening, to allow time to figure out shuttle. Always check back here in the morning, to be sure there are no last minute changes.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Use GPS or meetup mapping.

Hardshells, meet at put in. Read above shuttle plans.
Inflatables, meet at take out ALLENTON. Like we did in the old days.

If you're late you will miss the shuttle and will probably have to go back home. We're very limited on how many we can run back to the put in after we finish, with dogs and all our stuff. Just arrive in time.

NOTE: THE ONE-WAY BRIDGE IS CLOSED, SO SHUTTLE DRIVERS HAVE TO GO ALL THE WAY TO EUREKA/109 AND DOUBLE BACK TO THE TAKE OUT SITE. THIS WILL ADD ABOUT 15 MINUTES/8 MILES TO OUR SHUTTLE DRIVE.

Here is the link for the take out, but we will caravan and you can just follow.

[Allenton Access | Missouri Department of Conservation (mo.gov)](https://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/places/allenton-access)

Hwy 44 to 109. Take first stop light by Quik Trip right to stopsign by Golden Horseshoe Tack Shop, about 2 blocks. Turn left and go about 1/2 to right on Main Street. IT RUNS BETWEEN 2 SETS OF RR TRACKS. Follow Main for maybe 2 miles to Huntersford left to Allenton boat ramp.

We have to backtrack the same way to get to put in. We can caravan for that, but you'll have to get yourself to Allenton.
