CAMPING AT SILVER MINES on St Francois River. Maybe kayaking

Details

NEW CAMPGROUND. GREAT RIVER BUT NOT SURE ABOUT THE ACCESS. THERE WILL BE A PLACE TO GET TO THE WATER, JUST NOT SURE WHERE.

We might float, we might not. The St Francois River is the only whitewater river in MO. It is the site of the annual whitewater championships. Above our skill level if it's running high. Too shallow to float if it's low.

Because of this, I'm not scheduling a float, but I will be taking my inflatable kayak along, just in case. However, it's a gorgeous river, and we can have fun just playing in the water. It's rocky, rough and cold water.

I've booked site #11 for Friday through Sunday. Taking my camper. If weather is nice, I'll add Thursday. There are still a few electric sites. I have hiked this trail, but did not see the campground, so no idea what to expect.

DRIVING: Maybe best to use your GPS. Meetup didn't want to give me very good directions. I'm pretty close on the meetup map. About 85 to 90 miles from 44/141 area. Not a bad drive down Hwy 55 to 61/67 just beyond Farmington. About 1.5 hours.

Cell reception stinks here, so know before you go on directions.

Expect TICKS and bugs. This is not one of our civilized campgrounds. Frontline your dogs and spray your clothes/tents/etc with Permethrin.

If you sign up, include your campsite and your arrival/departure date. Also include if you want to bring a kayak a try to get on the river.
