LONE ELK PARK HIKE ... NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THIS ONE

Details
Great trail, rated moderate. Usually we see elk, but it's always a flip of the coin. About 3 miles with a couple of sizable hills, but mostly pretty easy dirt trail.
For obvious reasons, NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THIS ONE! Dogs are not even allowed in cars inside this park.
This park is notorious for ticks, so be sure to use Permethrin on clothes and whatever you usually use on your skin. That's why we do this in summer, when we can't take our dogs in the woods anyway because of ticks. If you spray yourself, you'll be fine.
HIKING BOOTS AND POLES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Bring water and maybe a little snack. We take a short break about mid point. Bathrooms in visitor center.
BRING YOUR CAMERAS. If we see the herd, you'll get some awesome pictures.
Our pace is moderate, we are not a power hiking group.
We hit the trail promptly at 10:00, with or without you. Arrive a little early and be ready to go at 10:00.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Hwy 44 to 141 exit. Get on NORTH OUTER ROAD (there are signs but it's a little tricky the first time) headed towards Eureka. You'll pass the "exit" of Lone Elk, road takes a sharp right and up the hill. Go past the World Bird Sanctuary and then turn left into Lone Elk entrance.
Follow road around the lake to the visitor center parking lot.
After we hike, you can take the 1/2 mile loop farther back into the park where the bison are.
