Beautiful trail on an "enchanted" type trail through the woods. Totally level, except for the big hill down and then back UP at the end. It's a big one, but we'll take our time. About like the hill up to the top of Castlewood Bluffs.

There might be a shallow creek/drainage ditch to cross, and sometimes the tunnel is soggy or a little water, wear waterproof boots. Can be very muddy in spots, but hopefully mud is frozen.

Usually no one else on most of this trail.

We'll go through the tunnel under the RR tracks to the Castlewood Loop, which is the best part. We can do an out-and-back to keep mileage down if weather gets bad, or do the entire loop for about 4.5 to 5 miles.

OFF LEASH dogs must stay within 20' of you and you must be able to catch and re-leash your dog within 5 seconds. If you cannot do this, please keep the leash on.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

DO NOT GO INTO LONE ELK PARK. OUR PARKING LOT IS ON THE RIGHT, JUST PAST THEIR ENTRY GATES!

Meetup mapping is good.

You can follow your GPS to the World Bird Sanctuary. Pass their entrance at the top of the hill. Just a short ways further up is entrance to Lone Elk Park on your left. Pass that, go another 300' to Chubb Trailhead parking lot on right. Small gravel lot. No bathrooms.
