Details
BEAUTIFUL WILDERNESS HIKE.
Easy, level dirt/grassy trails. About 3 miles, out and back, follows Meramec River. We'll wander around on Prairie trails or maybe do low water trail on the way back. It's 95% level. Hills are small.
EQUIPMENT. Wear waterproof boots, a couple of shallow creeks to cross. There can be muddy spots after a rain. Poles probably not necessary.
BRING WATER FOR YOUR DOG. Although we follow the river, there really isn't a spot to get down there to water the dogs.
Dress for weather.
OFF LEASH DOGS. Some dogs may be off leash. If you dog stays within 20 feet of you and comes immediately when called, it's okay. If you cannot keep it from running, then please keep the leash on. If you're not comfortable with this, you might want to pass on this particular hike.
We hit the trail promptly at scheduled time, arrive early. Allow 10 minutes from Hwy 44 and follow written directions.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Meetup mapping works well here.
Hwy 44 to Lewis Road exit. Turn right at stop sign on exit ramp, go 1/2 mile to right on Lewis Road (there is a stopsign here). Follow Lewis about 2 miles. You will go down a really big hill, past golf course and nice homes.
At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Allen Road, immediately before RR tracks and follow it to the end, about 1.5 miles. It's a ratty little road, but there is a parking lot at the end.
