Just a quick message to let you know that we are officially starting to kick over to our SUMMER SCHEDULE. Way too early this year, but summer is starting to heat us up.

Our event calendar may look a little bare right now, but we sure hope to remedy that as we go along. This happens every summer. We always come back strong sometime in October, when it cools off. Events are often last minute, especially in April and October, when it can be 95 degrees or 2' of snow.

HIKING: The ticks are out already and they're going to be bad! There will be no more hikes on wooded trails until we get a good freeze next fall. We can still do some of our parks, like Queeny, Route 66, Simpson Lake/River Walk, Minnie Ha Ha, and Zombie Road. As long as it's not too hot, we'll try to schedule at least one walk each weekend, but not a lot of variety. We will not hike in temps over 80 degrees, and we do not hike paved trails on hot days. We don't want to burn our dogs' paws.

Of course, we'll still do our Castlewood Creek Walk every Thursday. We can do that in the hottest of hot weather.

KAYAKING: We will also try to schedule a kayak trip each week. River kayaking is always subject to flooding conditions, and sometimes needs to be cancelled or rescheduled at a lake, if our rivers flood. Heat doesn't bother us on the water, we can kayak in 100 degree temps.

Most events are going to be planned about a week in advance, and will be totally weather-dependent. No sense loading up the calendar and then cancelling everything because of the weather. It will be on a "wait and see" basis.

Hang in there, we'll be back in the fall with our usual busy schedule on our favorite trails.
