SATURDAY KAYAKING on Meramec River. Onondaga to Blue Springs.
Details
GOOD LORD WILLIN' & THE CREEK DON'T RISE!
A really pretty 10 mile float down the Meramec. We will pass the spectacular Vilander Bluff, the highest and longest bluff on the Meramec River. A few challenging spots, but mostly easy.
WE NEED TO KNOW:
What kind of kayak? Inflatable or hardshell?
Do you have a dog? How big is your dog?
PLEASE COMMENT BELOW.
You need some basic kayaking skills, and your dog should be kayak savvy. This is not the place for first time paddlers or dogs. There is no way out, once you start. River is often high in springtime.
EVERYONE MUST WEAR PFD WHEN ON THE WATER. DOGS TOO!
We are not trained in water rescue, and we don't want any people or dogs injured or killed
We will be camping at Onondaga State Park this weekend. There is ZERO CELL RECEPTION at the campground, so please try to make your plans before Thursday morning. We will try to drive somewhere on Friday to check in, but otherwise you cannot reach us.
You don't have to camp to do the float. If you only want to do the float, be at the campground by 9:30 a.m. Bring your own coffee and come to campsite #47. We have a little pop up camper.
We don't stick to an exact schedule, we leave when we're ready. The float will take about 5 hours, once we hit the water. Allow for the entire day on the water.
BRING LUNCH.
We will take our kayaks to the launch site at Onondaga and inflate. Then a couple of us will stay to guard the boats while others run shuttle to Blue Springs takeout ramp. It's about a 15-20 minute drive each way. We will actually launch somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00.
Here is the link for Blue Springs Creek Conservation Area, our takeout point.
