THURSDAY MORNING DOG HIKE on Al Foster Trail. Good for beginners

Details

One of the nicest, easiest and most scenic trail in West County! The trail is level, gravel and follows the Meramec River. A few puddles in wet weather, but just a pretty little trail.

Pace will be relaxed. A 5 mile hike will take about 2 hours of walking, and a little play time at beaches.

We can't go here on weekends anymore, too many bikers, but we did this trail every Thursday for 2.5 years when our group was new. Many options, most are level and easy.

Usually, we will do Glencoe Beach to Sherman Beach, it's 2.5 miles each way and totally level. We can also hit Rock Hollow (Zombie Road) and do that sometimes. Occasionally (depending on group) we can head up the Bluff View for a little more of a workout, but it's still not crazy hard.

Almost all hikes will be 5 miles to 6 miles. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours.

This is not a power hike....we don't do that.

Wear good hiking shoes or hiking boots.
Bring water for dogs, it's an hour between river beaches.

These weekly hikes will probably end around June 1st, when our kayaking season begins. In summer, we paddle whenever we can.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Meetup mapping works pretty well here, use it.

Hwy 109 to Old State Road. After turning onto Old State Road, make an immediate right onto Washington and follow it TO THE END OF THE ROAD.

There are bathrooms at the first parking lot on left. Stop there if you need to, no other bathrooms anywhere.
