World Literature Discussion: The Metamorphosis

Read Around the World is a small, monthly book club dedicated to exploring world literature one country at a time.

This month’s pick is The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka—a short, unsettling, darkly funny tale in which a man wakes up one morning as a giant insect and immediately worries about being late for work. This Czech classic is guaranteed to make you grateful for your current species. No prior knowledge of existential dread required (but it helps).

Event structure:

1. Brief introductions (10 minutes)
2. Small group and/or partner discussion (50 minutes)
3. Whole group reflection (20 minutes)
4. Final thoughts and closing remarks (10 minutes)

We will meet on the 2nd floor of Vino Vino Café in Daan from 1:00-2:30PM. Attendees are asked to make a purchase at the cafe for kindly hosting our event.

是一個小型的每月讀書會，致力於一次探索一個國家的世界文學。

這是一則短小卻令人不安、帶著黑色幽默的經典故事：一名男子某天早上醒來，發現自己變成了一隻巨大的昆蟲，而他第一個擔心的竟然是——上班要遲到了。
這本來自捷克的經典作品，保證讓你更加感激自己目前的物種身分。
不需要具備存在主義的背景知識。
