Portola Redwood SP - 10.5M Hike
Details
Hike with me in the deep redwood forest after these wonderful rains. It's a magical time!
Portola Redwoods State Park has a rugged, natural basin forested with coast redwoods, Douglas fir and live oak. Eighteen miles of trails crisscross the canyon and its two streams, Peters Creek and Pescadero Creek. A short nature trail along Pescadero Creek introduces visitors to the natural history of the area. Visitors can see clam shells and other marine deposits from the time when the area was once covered by the ocean. The park has one of the tallest redwoods (300 feet high) in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
here is no cell connection once you enter the park. Meet at the main building (can't miss it) to pay for parking. $6 parking fee. Bathroom and water available at start.
No river crossings (80% sure), lots of soft detitrius to walk on, I don't expect lots of sliding but definitely expect moisture.
10.5 Miles - 1.7+/- Elevation - Moderate Hike
Bring layers, good shoes, a lunch.
The park is closed today due to downed trees from the storm but it should be open by Sunday.
