Welcome to Take a Hike! (DMV) – a friendly and inclusive group for anyone who loves exploring the outdoors in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area! Whether you’re an experienced hiker or simply looking to spend more time in nature, this group is for everyone interested in discovering new trails and meeting new people.
We organize hikes across the DMV area, focusing on scenic and accessible trails within an easy drive of DC. Each outing is a social experience where you can enjoy great conversations, make new friends, and connect with a diverse community of outdoor enthusiasts. Some hikes may be more challenging than others, but each one promises adventure, camaraderie, and the assurance that we don’t leave anyone behind.
After the hike, join us for an optional social get-together for lunch at a local spot nearby! It’s a great chance to unwind, share stories from the hike, and build friendships over good food and relaxed conversation.

Take a Hike! @ Sky Meadows
Sky Meadows State Park Visitor Center, 11012 Edmonds Ln, Markham, VA, USMeet new people and reconnect with old friends on our next adventure along the Whitehouse Overlook via Piedmont Overlook Trail Loop in Sky Meadows State Park, Virginia! This 4.9-mile hike is the perfect chance to get outdoors, stretch your legs, breathe in some fresh air, and engage in lively conversations with a wonderful group of fellow hikers.
Note: Sky Meadows State Park charges a $10 parking fee per vehicle.
With 1,030 feet of elevation gain, you’re sure to get a good workout. But don't worry, the paths are well-maintained, and we'll take breaks along the way to keep everyone together. As we navigate the trail, you’ll be treated to breathtaking valley views. The hike's mix of moderate climbs and picturesque paths makes it easy to walk and chat as we go.
We'll wrap up the hike at the Three Fox Vineyards & Farm Brewery, a perfect spot for socializing after a rewarding trek. They offer flights of both wine and beer, along with a selection of prepackaged snacks, and typically feature food trucks on weekends. You’re welcome to bring your own food to pair with your drinks. This gathering is a great chance to mingle, share your favorite goodies, and swap stories from the trail and beyond, making the post-hike experience even more enjoyable and socially enriching!

Take a Hike! @ Riverbend Park
Riverbend Park, 8700 Potomac Hills St, Great Falls, VA, USMake new friends and enjoy the great outdoors on a 4.2-mile loop hike from Riverbend Park to Great Falls Overlook and back, with an optional lunch at Mookie’s BBQ afterward. This hike offers a great mix of outdoor adventure and social connection, giving you a chance to enjoy nature while meeting others who share your love for the outdoors.
We’ll start at the Riverbend Park parking lot and follow a scenic trail through the woods with a few small inclines, then on the return from the Overlook we'll follow the trail along the Potomac River. The route winds through peaceful woodlands and scenic riverside paths, leading to the stunning Great Falls Overlook 2. This is an easy-to-moderate hike, with mostly flat terrain and a few gentle inclines, making it accessible to a wide range of fitness levels. The hike will take about 2.5 to 3 hours, offering plenty of time to enjoy the views and good company.
Afterward, join us for lunch at Mookie's BBQ located at 1141 Walker Rd, Great Falls, VA 22066. It’s the perfect way to relax, socialize, and share stories with fellow hikers.
