What we’re about
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life sometimes it's hard to find the time to get away, let alone all the time to plan and organize a trip. That's what TIOA is for. We have a list of trips available and all you have to do is find the time to join us. If there is a trip you want to do, then let me know and I will figure out the logistics and post it. If you are a beginner and don't feel comfortable, or don't have the proper gear this is the perfect way to Take It Outdoors in a safe, fun and friendly way. If you aren't a beginner and are looking for a challenge; we have those trips as well.
When you come out on a trip you will find that TIOA is a fun loving community from all walks of life. Come on out and join the fun!!
See you soon!!
NOTE - A lot of planning goes into the trips we run. Please be considerate of all the members and the organizers of the group and do not be a "No Show". I know that sometimes issues spring up (family issues, medical, work, etc.) and that is completely understandable. In those cases please send a message saying you won't be able to make it. If you don't plan on attending, don't intend to mark it on your calendar or don't intend to make a best effort to come to the event please, please, please do not RSVP "yes" until you are ready.
Thank you much!!

Rivers are fun to paddle. The current can make a long day on the water easy, or it can make it very tiring. Proper form and technique can help you enjoy the most a river has to offer. From riding the current to relaxing in an eddy, proper skills and knowledge can make your day on the water safer and more enjoyable.
We will spend the first half of the class with some discussion and basics on land, then we will get on the water to review strokes and techniques. For the second half of the class, we will paddle up to a moving water feature and learn about spawning, reverse ferrying, ferrying, eddying out, and other moving water skills.
This class is intended for the beginner paddler ready to get out on moving water. You should have paddled a handful of times before, however, anyone who is interested in learning new skills or honing existing ones, is welcome to attend. Space will be limited. If you are unsure if you are up for it, please reach out with any questions. Our instructors are certified Level 2 & Level 3 River Kayaking Instructors who love kayaking and love seeing others gain skills to take their kayaking to the next level of enjoyment.
There is a part of the class where we will walk over unstable river rocks to go above a water feature. This can be challenging for some but we are there to assist.
Kayak Requirements:
Rental kayaks are available. We ask that all participants use a sit in style kayak with at least one bulkhead (storage compartment). We do not recommend using pelican/lifetime/sun dolphin style kayaks for this event.
