During our shelter-in-place, one of the best activities you can do with your kids is hike! Although group hikes are suspended for the time being, you can get outside with your kids and let them experience nature.
San Pablo Bay Trail on Mare Island and Benicia State Recreation Area are two kid/stroller friendly trails you can visit.
Some tips:
- don't hike if you're feeling ill or have symptoms of a cold
- limit your group size to 3-5 family members
- if you pass others on trail, say hello! Just keep moving, or if you stop to chat, maintain 6 feet of space between you
- carry hand sanitizer and use it with your kids! We can't keep their hands off their faces, but we can work to keep them clean
- point out plants, trees, birds, rocks, and talk about them with your kids
- take pictures!
After your walk, share it with us here in the "comments", and upload a photo of the trail!
Getting out in nature is an important piece of overall health for you and your kids. It lets your kids burn off some of that pent-up energy, creates a calm frame of mind, and promotes better sleep.
Vallejo will get through this crisis, but let's get through it strong, healthy, and together!
