8 Benefits of Donating Blood That You May Not Know About (http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/8-benefits-donating-blood-that-you-may-not-know-about.html)
- Blood donation is good for your health.
- Blood donation has also been shown to lower the risk of cancer (http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/content/100/14/996.abstract).
- When someone donates blood, they get a free health check-up.
- The donor will get a free blood analysis and be notified of their blood type.
- You get some free stuff!
- Replenishing blood can be good for the body.
- Donating blood is the fastest way to lose a pound of weight.
- Blood donors get to relax for an hour or so and lay back in a chair (or < 5 minutes if you’re a fast bleeder)
If not personally in need, at some point we will all know a friend, neighbor, family member, or co-worker who needs a blood transfusion. In fact, 1 out of 3 people will need blood in their lifetime. From natural disasters to unforeseen catastrophes, emergency hospital procedures to life-long battles with chronic diseases such as sickle cell, the demand for blood is constant. The supply is not. And since there is no substitute, only volunteer blood donors can roll up their sleeves and save lives.
