Abstract and Reflections Photography Seaport Secrets : Creative Seeing

Details

Greetings Photographers!
Make new friends while photographing the Seaport District together. This week we will focus on Abstract Photography and Reflections. Discover what these are and how to create them. Maybe you have tried to do abstract photography before but were not really sure if it was "good".
Seaport is such a fun area if you are going for the first time or the tenth time. Does not matter. You always find something interesting when you look through your lens.

Abstracts can be created in nature, landscapes, cityscapes, and street photography. What I love most is seeing the beauty of ordinary objects and creating images the delight and surprise others. Architecture and water are especially good for abstract and reflections. At Seaport we have both!

Contemplative photography practices require your full and undivided attention. You need to slow down, be present, and get in the flow. This gives you a greatly needed beauty break. I will introduce some basic ways to stop, center and start so you see more deeply and connect to your subject before you click the shutter. Composing yourself before you compose the image is one of the secrets to successful abstract photography.

Discover the other secrets to success in this workshop that can make your abstracts and reflections more alive and engaging. I will provide specific criteria so you know what to focus on such as visual balance.

The response we often have when we see a great abstract image is, “I love it, what is it?" Abstract photography will challenge your creative skills with fun assignments and fresh perspectives. Learn to see more creatively and strengthen your compositions. Abstract images include macro, minimalism, and impressionism.

These ordinary subjects available right where you are offer the perfect opportunity to work on abstracting the essence and creating images with grace and beauty: ANYTHING can make a good abstract image but not everything does. It depends on the photographer.

Some of the skills you will work on during the class:

Isolating details using framing and negative space with reflections
Specific composition structures for abstract and minimalist style
Working with 3 types of reflections
Visual Balance and dynamic tension
Camera settings for sharp focus
See sample photos in album below.

All levels welcome. You can shoot in auto, aperture priority or manual. iphones also welcome.

The class size is limited to 8. There are restrooms available in the area where we will be shooting.

I will give you a creative photography assignment focused on abstract/reflection photography. This will include an informative talk and sample photos to inspire you.The creative assignment will challenge you to see with fresh eyes and think differently about your subject. There will be time for discussions and questions about camera settings. You will receive helpful handouts so you can practice again on your own.

I hope you can join us!
