"Color is a power that directly influences the soul." W. Kandinsky
You are invited to learn how to see the colors of nature through the eyes of an artist. Create images that capture the natural wonders of the Mount Auburn Cemetery in your own unique way. You may think a cemetery is a strange place for a photography workshop, but this location is a visual treasure trove packed with beauty waiting to be photographed by you.

This will be an in-depth exploration of the use of color as a creative visual element in your photography. We will work with complementary and harmonious color combinations to achieve different effects and moods. Seeing color as the subject of your image will give you a fresh way of looking at the world around you.
In addition to working with different color combinations you can focus on three other skills to improve your photography:

  1. How to gain control over your camera setting by going off Auto. We will work on how to use depth of field (f-stop) settings to isolate your subject and create drama.
  2. How to use a variety of creative compositions to organize the content of your image in fresh, exciting ways beyond the rule of thirds.
  3. How to be more mindful before you click the shutter so you experience the beauty of the place and can translate that into your image.

We will end class with a hike up the tower for this spectacular 360% view! Or you can stay down on the ground if you don't care for heights. Great view from there as well.

Learning to see creatively means slowing down to notice simple details right in front of you the have the potential to make a great photo. The things other people walk right by will suddenly jump out at you begging for your attention.

I will introduce you to some simple step by step practices for creative seeing so you can find beauty in the most unexpected places. I will show you some inspiring example photos to help get you started. I will help challenge your assumptions about what makes an interesting photo.

I have designed a series of specific assignments to challenge your creativity and get you out of your habitual ways of seeing.

You will have a chance to try these out right away with my guidance. You will receive individual coaching and critique while we are in the field shooting. This way you can be confident that you will be able to repeat the process next time you are out on a shoot.

It is all about the creative act of seeing and capturing the moments of life with a fresh eye. There is a sudden sense of discovery when you get a glimpse of nature in this way.

This workshop is for you if:

• You want to develop your eye to see beyond the basic, obvious images.

• You would like to go off auto and explore depth of field with aperture priority.

• You wish your photos matched your memory of the moment.

• You would like to go beyond the basics of composition and learn more advanced ways of composing your images using dynamic tension and harmony.

Taking better photos takes practice and with guidance then you know what to focus on and how to see with the creative eye of an art photographer.

I am very excited about offering this intensive workshop.
