Greetings Photographers!
This week will turn our attention toward seeing colors, shapes and light close up. The beautiful shapes and shadows of often overlooked botanicals of the Boston Gardens will be the focus of this program. Right now there are tropical looking enormous leaves, fun to photograph. This is a good class for learning how to use your camera better.

Skills we will work on:

  • Correct exposure to capture qualities of light using shutter speeds
  • Creative effects of blur background using aperture settings
  • Engaging compositions using selective focus

For this program I will focus on the different qualities of light that make botanical photography eye catching. The sample above shows how magical backlight can be. Also learn about side light which brings out texture and front light.

Learn to use the right camera settings to capture the details or to blur the background.

We will also work on choosing the most impactful focus point and how to compose your shot to capture the beauty you see. I choose a symmetrical composition in the sample above to mirror the structure of the plant.

Often the experience of beauty is lost in the translation into an image. I will share three keys to successfully expressing the essence of the scene.

Botanicals make beautiful prints and cards to send to family and friends. Or why not try your hand at creating a small book or calendar? Could be fun....
I hope you can join us! All levels welcome. Great for iPhone users too.
