The fact that octopuses can edit their mRNA in real time, changing the way their neurons function on the fly, and each of their arms is capable of independent cognition has me fascinated. It is not just weird biology. It is a completely different model of intelligence.

If evolution ever hands the crown to another species, it will not be dolphins or apes. It will be the octopuses.
