Philosophy Debate -Is the State Protecting Our Rights or Corrupting Our Freedom?

Details
Topic: Is the state protecting our rights or corrupting our freedom? Diogenes of Sinope rejected society, believing civilization corrupts humanity’s true nature. Rousseau similarly argued that the rise of the state led to inequality and lost freedom. But the modern state was created to protect people from the arbitrary rule of feudal lords and to ensure universal rights by eliminating regional differences. In this debate, we’ll examine whether rejecting the state would return us to true freedom, or if the state is essential to protect rights and avoid chaos.
Are there topics you've always wanted to explore or debate with others? Join us for a series of engaging discussions where you can share your views, hear new perspectives, and deepen your understanding of the world. As a philosopher traveling the globe to listen to diverse voices, I will guide our conversations in the spirit of Socratic inquiry: "I know that I know nothing." Together, let’s seek truth through thoughtful dialogue and open minds.
This event is held weekly, alongside other philosophical lectures—feel free to explore those as well!
