The Talking Telegram - A Creative Retreat

This is Abhyudaya on behalf of the Talking Books, a book club operation online and offline since 2017 in Delhi and NCR – and we are organising something in Palampur, Himachal, that may interest you and your community of book lovers.

What is The Talking Telegram

The Talking Telegram is a creative retreat programme for writers, readers, and booklovers of all stripes. The flexistay comes with an extremely affordable package with accommodation, meals, and a schedule designed to delight, engage, and – hopefully – inspire creative people.

Mornings will begin with a creative discussion session, while the evenings will feature interactive discussions and group writing/reading prompts. Read-aloud sessions are planned for booklovers to read their favourite lines from books they have read or are reading, or for writers to share their own WIPs with the group. Our group-led discussions held under the beautiful night sky will see bonfire and bonhomie prevail with informal discussions around art, storytelling, and the creative process.’

For people interested in exploring the locale, we also have guided tours to nearby monasteries and tea estates, as well as treks and nature walks.

The brochure with currently planned details is attached. The topics discussed might evolve but the broader schedule remains the same. The goal is to build a creative community where all of us learn and grow together. We also want to keep it an affordable option for people who want to meet like-minded people, finish their long pile of unread books, and hone their craft of creative writing.

Our Vision

The vision behind this retreat is to bring together people who believe that the pen is often mightier than the sword, and a well-placed word can change the course of history. It is, at the very least, a good breathing space for people who find themselves caught in the rut of day-to-day lives to pursue their passion for creative endeavours amongst a group of likeminded people. At best, it can become a vibrant, engaging community that provides the impetus and the inspiration to make better art.

(If you are someone concerned with the editing, publishing and distribution industry, your support could be as a sponsor of the retreat, a partner publishing house for the books being discussed and reviewed in the retreat or simply as a social media collaborator. We could also work out a deal for the final drafts that are churned out at the end of this retreat if your editors find them to be of quality.)

Our Team

Although the Talking Books family is a large one, the team behind this passion project is a partnership between two friends.

Abhyudaya Shrivastava, a dentist by profession, is the founder of Talking Books. He currently resides in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. He has written and published five books on Kindle.

Ritesh Kukrety is a content strategist who runs his own content strategy and management company. As someone whose profession demands him to be good at writing, this is a passion project tailor-made for his capabilities.

Venue Partner

PeakHavn is located on the outskirts of the town of Palampur. It is the perfect destination for the environment any creative person loves to enjoy, free from the distractions of everyday life while having good connectivity to nearby towns. It is a happy coincidence that their vision aligns with our vision perfectly. PeakHavn is easily reachable through taxi from Dharmshala and Palampur.
