Greetings.
TL:DR; This week, to help people prepare for the upcoming Bitcoin fork, we're holding 2 meetups in our new Blockchain center, BlockSpaces!
First I would like to welcome all the new bitcoineers to our group. This year has been a tremendous year of growth for cryptocurrencies around the world and that is also reflected here in this group. We're now averaging anywhere fro 40-70 people at our meetups. That's a 10 fold increase this year, which seems right in line with the price of bitcoin.
For the old bitcoineers here, I want to thank you for your continued interest and support in our community. The vision of having a Blockchain center in Tampa couldn't be realized with you, and what we're building is going to make a big impact, so I want to thank you in advanced for your continued support as we build Florida's first Blockchain center.
This week, we'll be holding 2 meetups focusing on the upcoming Bitcoin 2x fork. For those of you out of the loop, let me give you the punchline, Bitcoin is going to experience a hard fork at Block#494784 (approx Nov 16th (https://coinsalad.com/2x/countdown)) which will increase the blocksize from the current 1mb limit to a 2mb limit in accord with the New York Agreement (NYA) signed by a number of bitcoin companies at the NYC Consensus conference earlier this year.
There has been much debate about how this hard fork is being implemented, because none of the current Core developers signed the agreement, who have been the maintainers of the Bitcoin protocol to this point. And while it's said a large majority of the miners and large bitcoin companies support the 2x hard fork, some that did sign the NYA have since rescinded their support, which is causing more uncertainty.
Given the uncertainty and the possible outcomes, there is understandably alot of confusion. With these meetups this week I want to make sure everyone knows how to prepare if you're not sure, we'll go over the details and walk through the steps for you.
While it's not finished, we'll be opening the doors to BlockSpaces. Bare with the work in progress, but I want to start utilizing the space as much as we can.
