Work Smarter, Not Harder: Getting the Most Bang for your Buck with Testing

Details

Talk Description:
Life isn’t all about unit-level assertions, especially in the age of distributed services, bespoke remote teams, and polyglot developers and infrastructure. Defining something is working as expected has changed, so it’s time to update your strategies. In this talk, I will show you various approaches and angles of testing code, software systems, continuously asserting important business cases, and tools you may use to test various other aspects of your stack or validate thinking and expectation... and do it with [mostly] Python tooling so you’ll feel right at home. The idea is to show off several approaches to prove you can do a little work and get a large reward. Look forward to trendy buzz words like unit testing, property testing, “e2e” / integration testing, performance testing, behavior driven development, and anything else that time will allow for. We may even cover database-level assertions for your analytics pipeline. You’ve got questions, and I have stories of how I’ve failed!

About the Speaker:
Lyle Scott III is from St Pete, FL and has been a long time Python dev with roots in backend architecture and systems. He enjoys automating CI/CD pipelines where-ever they go so that engineering teams can move smarter and faster.
