Kirtan with Kimberly Autumn Equinox Sept 2023
Details
Join us just a few days after the autumnal equinox, a time of transition and instability, as we use the classic meditation practice of Kirtan to ground, center, and expand our hearts.
Sacred Song Meditation (called Kirtan in Sanskrit) is a time-honored part of the bhakti yoga tradition. Just as people are sensitive to the vibrations of their surroundings, they can also be affected by music. By singing specific sacred songs, the resulting sound creates a vibration that acts upon the physical and spiritual body, realigning the body with its natural state. This promotes healing and creates feelings of peace, heart-openness and clarity. Meditation arises as the singer maintains relaxed and open awareness on the sound and the sensations in the body.
Beginners are warmly welcomed, as are those who might be hesitant to sing :). This is a safe and welcoming environment that supports participants through any learning curve. We currently have 8-12 regulars, whose voices will support you!
Some participants report feeling a deep and abiding peace afterward. I hope you'll join us this month, to experience for yourself the joyful, uplifted heart that arises from this powerful spiritual healing practice.
We will begin with a brief grounding into presence, share a few rounds of chanting Om/Aum, and then sing a variety of classic Kirtan chants in the Sanskrit language.
Song sheets will be provided. Our practice together will conclude with the sharing of prasad, provided by the organizer.
This event is free of charge, though any donations are gratefully accepted.
