TampaBay PyLadies Joint Event <==> TBDSG: Is data science still sexy?

Details

TampaBay PyLadies is co-hosting this event with the Tampa Bay Data Science Group.
For the first ever post pandemic Data Science meeting at Alessi, we thought we'd take a look back at where we've been and where we're going.
We'll gather beginning at 6:30 in the Alessi Kitchen for some food and non-alcoholic beverages and convene in the meeting room about 7 for another exciting presentation by Ahmed Sherif.
Exactly 10 years ago Harvard Business Review claimed Data Scientist: The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century. The article was written by Thomas Davenport and D.J. Patil, who are both professors at the Harvard Business School. At the same time we hear stories about Data Science projects failing at the enterprise level even though these companies have gone out and hired many Data Scientists. Why is this happening? Is the need for Data Scientists no longer a marker for success? Perhaps within the last 10 years, the role has evolved into more concrete responsibilities and skillsets that are required for any organization to be successful. This talk will go into 5 different roles that were spawned out of the Data Science community and how one can obtain the skills to be successful in the role:
These are the following:
(1) Machine Learning Engineer
(2) Machine Learning Scientist
(3) MLOps Engineer
(4) Data Engineer
(5) AI Engineer
Our speaker:
Ahmed Sherif has a great mix of Data Science and Engineering skills. He spends his time building ML and deep learning models into applications and deploying them to the cloud as an Architect at Microsoft. Ahmed is the author of two books: Practical Business Intelligence and Apache Spark Deep Learning Cookbook.
