This is a brand new campaign for a 5e D&D campaign.
This campaign, set in 1,581 DR in the Sword Coast of Faerûn, is an entirely Gothic setting, which includes gothic intrigue. (The 5e timeline starts in 1,491 DR.) For a brief time after the spellplague, the restriction to 9th level magic was removed and a secret society of Netherese used the loosened, unguarded weave to cast 13th level magic and reformed mythallars. Mystra struggles to get a hold of their magic and this in turn disrupts all the magic in the world, causing it to sometimes surge and sometimes fizzle. As a result, non-magical technology rushed ahead, wars could be conducted without the threat of fireball, magicless nobles could raise their station, and the elves unbeholden to Mystra’s struggle, became dominant once again. It is a thematically dark world, filled with horrible monsters and power-hungry nobles.
You play as someone wanting to hunt these monsters, for the good of the world or for personal gain. The Huntsman, the new faction that hunts monsters for political power, is plugged into the noble intrigue of the realm. Your story can be as little or as much character-driven as you wish.
