Kayaking Caladesi Island

Details

Note: This is an easy kayaking adventure, so you don't need to be experienced at kayaking. They will also give us some safety and kayaking tips before hand. The water we will be traveling over will be shallow in most spots. Beginner kayakers are welcomed. Most kayaks are sit on top and very difficult to flip over.
**Please be there by 8:30am so we can sign in and pay and be ready to start kayaking by 9am. If possible, bring cash as they can sign us up much quicker.

Caladesi Island is a true jewel voted the # 1 beach in North America in 2008. With beautiful white sand, ample shells, beautiful water, and bird nesting areas. It's only a 15 minute paddle from their business location.
Continue to paddle along the edge of the mangrove forest where the water averages only 2 to 5 feet deep, the grass flats are protected, (no motor boats allowed) dolphins, osprey are very common, manatee and eagles are seen on occasion along with hundreds of species of migratory birds and fish that visit the island make this a kayaking paradise.
If you need to rent a kayak, they will give us the 2 hour Kayak rental rate for 3 hours of use because we are a large group. Please be on time!
Kayak Rental Cost: They prefer you pay with cash as their wireless is not good for credit card use.
Single Kayak = $30.00
Tandem Kayak = $45.00
If you want to rent a double kayak but don't have a second person, just post it in the notes of this Meetup post, that you want to share a kayak and hopefully you can find a partner that way. Just a suggestion :)
If you are bringing your own kayak, please state that as well so we can get an accurate count of how many kayak's we will need.
Rental Needs: Please let us know if you need to rent a kayak and single or tandem

Parking: They have plenty of parking right on the beach. You can park your car just about anywhere along the beach for free.
Directions: When heading west on Curlew Rd. it will turn into Dunedin Causeway they are 1 mile west of the drawbridge on the left. Look for all the kayaks. Google maps takes you 1/2 mile too far west so be on the look out.

After the kayaking we can then go just down the street on the causeway to enjoy some lunch and cocktails at Frenchy's Outpost Bar & Grill in Dunedin (optional).
