We’ve changed – MORE MUSIC/MORE FUN! Join our improved, free-to-all music circle in playing guitar, uke & other acoustic instruments and singing as we make friends, and have fun sharing songs old and new. SOJO stands for “Sing Out Jam Out”, the name used across the nation by music circles that encourage everyone to either bring copies of songs you want us all to try or to pick songs from one of the two SOJO songbooks: “Rise Up Singing” and “Rise Again”. These books contain over 2,000 songs, old and new, with lyrics and chords. We go around the circle asking each person in turn to select a song and the key (bring your capo), and everyone joins in the playing and singing. At a good session, most SOJOs cover 20 or more songs. Bringing song sheets (12 copies, one sided with lyrics and chords) for songs you want to do is encouraged. Singers who don’t play an instrument are welcome, as are instrumentalists (players) of all skill levels, even if you don’t often sing.
Our music includes folk, country, blues, rock, pop, Motown, traditional, show tunes and more depending on what people bring to the circle. The regular schedule is to meet monthly on the second Saturday from 2:00pm to 4:15pm at the Clearwater Public Library, 100 N Osceola Ave, Clearwater, FL. The library parking is free, and we meet in the 1st floor conference room (capacity 20), where it helps if you bring your own music stand, songbooks and copies of other songs you want us all to try.
Please let us know you’re coming through Meetup.com so we know how to arrange the room. Keep an eye on your Meetup.com messages and notification for the latest information.
It helps if you bring the songbooks, which are available for purchase from a variety of sources. For example, see the following (we have no commercial interest in any seller). [Note: We recommend getting the larger size spiral bound edition unless you like to read small type while you play/sing]:
Sometimes we schedule additional SOJOs, typically at different locations, with unique locations & times depending on space availability and the interests of the group members. So… feel free to suggest additional sessions if you’re willing to help organize them.
Our new “more music/more fun” format started in October 2019, so please join/rejoin the Tampa Bay Area SOJO music circle for music, fun & friendship.
