Blockchain Myths for Developers by Russ Fustino

In conversations around transformative technology, it’s almost inevitable that blockchain will enter the conversation. It’s no surprise: it’s risen from relative obscurity outside of technical circles just a few years ago to seeming applicability in every industry today. However, while not precisely new – the technology has been around for over a decade. And as any technology advances significantly over 10 years, blockchain has as well. Boardrooms and chat rooms alike are excited with talk of its potential. And as with any new technology, there are some myths and misinformation. I’ve rounded up several common myths that I hear in the halls at professional developer conferences:

Myths: Blockchain is a solution waiting for a problem. Blockchain and crypto, it’s all the same, right? Blockchain wastes energy and is not green. Blockchain is expensive. Blockchain is slow. What is Solidity and is that required to do blockchain development? Blockchain is a closed system and requires authentication. Blockchain is dangerous right, so many hacks? Blockchain development is difficult. Blockchain development does not pay well, does it? Blockchain is a ponzi scheme?

This session provides clarity on these myths and code will be shown on how to build blockchain dApps (decentralized Apps) and deploy to blockchain! The session will cover getting started building decentralized applications (dApps) with PyTeal, Reach JavaScript and C#.
In this session you will learn how to...

  • Understand the real potential of blockchain
  • Demystify the myths
  • Set up your development environment
  • Use JavaScript, Python and/or C# to deploy dApps to the blockchain

Getting Started with Orleans and .Net 7 by Phil Deveau

Orleans is an actor based distributed computing platform built into the .Net framework. Originally built as a research project Orleans has been around for a number of years. Join in to learn about how to get started with Orleans as we build out some basic functionality and build up to a journaled distributed transaction system.

Note: Topics will center around Cloud Development, Operations, Security, and Architecture. Events are hosted at the Microsoft Building.
