What we’re about
✨ A practice space for tarot readers and creative spirits of all levels ✨
Welcome! This group is for anyone seeking to build or deepen a tarot practice—whether you’re brand new or have been reading for years.
We host a range of ongoing events where tarot readers gather to read, create, and connect. Our offerings include:
🟣 Tarot Reading Practice – group sessions where we read tarot for and with one another
🔵 Tarot Writing Workshop – a generative writing space where the cards lead the way
🟢 Asemic Tarot Art Workshop – abstract mark-making inspired by the symbols of the tarot
🟡 Tarot Meditations – guided journeys through the minor and major arcana
All events are structured to support intuitive development, creative risk-taking, and mutual respect. Our reading circles are especially designed to help newer readers participate confidently while still offering depth for longtime practitioners.
🔴 A physical tarot deck (not another non-tarot oracle deck) is required for entry to all events.
🕊 Want to see what’s coming up or RSVP directly? Find the latest offerings at kimberlyessex.com.
This group is rooted in the belief that tarot is not just a tool for insight—it’s a creative and communal practice. Come curious. Come open. Come as you are.
xo,
Kim Essex

If creativity is a muscle, this is your invitation to come workout with us. Something magical happens when two or more gather—especially if they each bring along their tarot cards. Come together, share your voice, and let the cards lead the way.
A generative workshop is about generating content. This is not a lecture. This is not about waiting for the muse. This workshop is about showing up for your creativity, putting pen to paper, and discovering the stories that flow from within. Your tarot deck will be your partner in this exploration. It’s a tool for finding the questions, for opening the door. It’s a tool to access ideas you didn’t know were there inside of you. Bring a tarot deck that feels right to you.
Our process:
We will each draw a tarot card—a gesture, an opening.
We will write for ten minutes—a rhythm, a breath, a moment suspended.
We will share what we’ve created—fragments, stories, echoes of thought.
Then we will repeat, allowing each round to deepen the experience.
This workshop is more than just a writing exercise—it’s a chance to deepen your connection to tarot, spark your creativity, and join a community of writers and readers. No writing or tarot experience is required. Let’s gather, write, and celebrate the stories that emerge.

kimAbout your event leader: Kimberly Essex is an artist, poet, professional tarot reader, and meditation teacher who began the Tarot for Creatives Meetup as an offering to her new community when she first moved from NYC to Philadelphia in 2018. The group met monthly in Center City until it was moved online at the beginning of 2020. While the membership is still primarily based in Philadelphia, being online has allowed others to join from anywhere in the world. Being online has also made it possible to offer a wider variety of events including reading, writing from, and meditating with the Tarot. All events are beginner-friendly--no tarot, writing, or meditation experience is needed. If you have a tarot deck, you are welcome to join in.
- Asemic Art Tarot WorkshopLink visible for attendees
This workshop invites tarot readers of all skill levels to engage with their cards in a new, imaginative way by responding to the symbols, imagery, and feelings of randomly pulled cards through abstract mark-making.
Whether you’re new to tarot, asemic art, or both, this workshop offers a welcoming space to explore how intuitive and symbolic interpretation can extend beyond words. Together, we will use the cards as inspiration for creating art that blends writing-like forms, symbols, and textures into something deeply personal and open to interpretation. This workshop emphasizes playfulness and creativity over technical skill, making it ideal for beginners in both tarot and art. By the end, you’ll have new ways to approach your tarot practice and a piece of unique art that captures your personal response to the cards.
For examples of asemic art, check out the work of Renee Gladman and Cy Twombly!
Bring your favorite deck, writing or drawing tools, an open mind, and a willingness to experiment—let’s explore where tarot and asemic art can take us!
