"How to Create a Story with Oracle Cards"
Dorchester Hall, 2 Dugdale St, Warwick, WA, AUThe Story in the Cards
Presented by Ness (Vanessa) Tomlinson
My journey began when I was just 11 years old. It started with a Ouija board and seeing spirit as clearly as day when they began talking to me. At the time, I thought that was completely normal. I became curious and started doing more of them, and by the age of 15 it felt like I was conducting one-on-one sessions with the board—connecting people with their passed loved ones and answering questions about whether they were okay during and after their passing.
At 16 I discovered meditation, which opened me to astral travel and a deeper connection with spirit. Then, at 19, I found tarot cards. My mind couldn't stay focused on the books or traditional meanings—I just wanted to help people. That's when I realised that I didn't need to rely on the book. The story was already there, in the cards, waiting for each client.
Life moved forward and, as I focused on my career, I also found myself a single mum at 29 raising my daughter alone. My connection to spirit was only growing stronger, so I trusted it and followed it. My intuition became sharper, and I discovered a deep love for working with angels and oracle cards.
I began my career as a youth worker, later moving into social work, but everything shifted when my father passed away when I was 31. That was the moment I truly realised the strength of my connection. I saw my dad walking up the driveway, smelled his cigarette smoke in the house, and then he began communicating with me. He became a guide for me, showing me that I had a gift with spirit.
I started opening my home for readings, working at expos, raising my daughter, and continuing part-time work. Eleven years later I was made redundant as a career advisor, and my dream of being a youth worker had shifted—spirit was leading me in a different direction. Unsure of what was next, I even considered retail. The day I walked into the Blue Buddha in Busselton looking for a job, Jo Watkins, the manager at the time, said she had a position for a reader. That was the turning point—I just had to trust.
In the last 12 years I've grown into my spiritual work: becoming a counsellor, life coach, NLP Master, Reiki healer, Master Angelic healer, and Soul Midwife. I now run women's circles in Busselton and teach others how to develop their intuition, read cards, and trust their spiritual journey. Looking back, I see this as my true purpose. Interestingly, 30 years ago I didn't want to be a psychic medium—I wanted to be a crystal healer—but spirit clearly had other plans.
Along the way, I've also created my own oracle decks: Archangels of the Dark and Archangels of the Light. (In this presentation I'll share the story behind these decks and how I created them.)
From there, I'll guide you through how to create a story for someone when reading the cards—trusting your intuition and allowing yourself to step into that role of helping others.
(At this point, I'll move into the live presentation and demonstration of how to read the cards.)
Closing: Finish with questions and discussion.
