10:30am Alleghany County mtns 43 miles, 4500' climbing

Pop-up ride on the quiet back roads in the mountains of Alleghany County, NC, about 2-1/2 hours from Chapel Hill. Bring your climbing legs and/or low gearing.

Route is roughly the western 40-mile loop that concludes the English century of the Tour de Mountains that starts in Sparta (this year on June 13, 2026). Includes lots of 0.5 to 1-mile climbs, plus two 2-mile climbs, including the signature climb up Nile Rd.

Park at Glade Creek Elementary School, corner of Glade Creek School and Glade Valley roads. Convenience store rest stop around elapsed mile 14 in downtown Sparta.

Planning for a B16 effort to yield 12-13mph, finishing around 2:30pm.

Optional post-ride lunch at Los Queretanos Taqueria/Tienda, a quarter-mile from the start/finish. Highly recommend the al pastor of either tacos or burritos!

Your responsibility as part of the group is to RSVP and supply your own cue sheet or download the GPS file.
