Saturday Evening Genre Long-form Impro Dojo (All Levels)
Details
Long Form Genre Plays - Twilight Zone Unscripted starts January 10th, 2026! Saturdays, 6–9pm • January 10 – (Final Showcase Date TBA)
Step into a dimension of shadow and light… of mystery, morality, and the unexpected.
This 6-week intensive explores how to create fully improvised stories inspired by The Twilight Zone — blending vintage sci-fi, psychological tension, moral twists, and 1950s character work into compelling long-form performances.
Across the series, you’ll learn how to:
• Build uncanny, period-authentic characters
From hard-boiled detectives and anxious suburbanites to scientists, soldiers, dreamers, and the doomed. Learn how to use voice, physicality, and genre-specific acting to ground the surreal.
• Craft suspense, irony, and escalating tension
Explore narrative structures that drive Twilight Zone episodes:
the ordinary world → the strange intrusion → the mounting mystery → the twist.
• Create supernatural and unexplained phenomena (without props)
UFOs… time loops… psychic visions… haunted radios… alternate realities.
Learn techniques to stage them truthfully through ensemble support, soundscaping, and emotional realism.
• Use classic Twilight Zone themes to shape your scene work
Identity, fate, fear, conformity, paranoia, alienation, wonder.
We’ll translate these into playable scene games and story drivers.
• Build atmosphere through voice and stage picture
Techniques from film noir, radio drama, and vintage TV acting help you create evocative, stylized worlds that still feel grounded and human.
• Work in an ensemble to deliver powerful, eerie stories
We’ll develop an anthology-style format for the final performance —
a night of original improvised Twilight Zone tales created by the class.
Who This Series is For
Improvisers with some scene experience who want to expand their acting range, explore stylized genres, and perform rich narrative long-form.
Fans of sci-fi, mystery, and vintage storytelling especially welcome.
Final Student Showcase
The series culminates in a public performance where the ensemble presents
“Twilight Zone Unscripted” — an improvised anthology of strange stories and twist endings.
Workshops are held at Studio Gokko near Yoyogi-Koen and Hatagaya, close to the restaurant Hoff, and this 3-hour workshop costs ¥4,000. Bring exact change if you can, please. And careful with the map here on Meetup! Some report it leads them to the next street over. Use this Google location if you have any problems: https://goo.gl/maps/w4f6GgXbYG5u2YvW7
Thanks,
Chris
Apres-improv Socializing
After the workshop, students can walk across the street to Hoff, a great restaurant for food, drink and conversation, so it's educational and social!
***
The Improv Foundation Workshops are open workshops, so any native-level English speaker is free to come and give it a try.
Diversity Policy
We strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone, regardless of minority status. Continued participation is at the discretion of the instructors. So be positive and nice to your fellow improvisors! Also, we're all adults here, but hitting on people isn't cool in a workshop. Just saying.

PS: Studio Gokko is about a ten-minute walk from the following stations: Hatsudai, Hatagaya, Yoyogi-koen, and Yoyogi-hachiman.
The GPS should take you right there, but just in case, we are very close to a restaurant called Hoff: http://hoff-restaurant.com
TCS Studio Gokko is in the basement of an orange-tiled building with a cleaners and glass shop on the first floor, and our door is on the very left-hand side, next to the glass shop, which has グラス written on its shutter. Look for the Studio Gokko logo on the door!
