What we’re about
This is a social bicycling group. TeamNakagawa is a private group of bicyclists of a very wide range of fitness. From a flat 10 mile (1 hour) pathway ride to a full 100 mile summer century ride, we've got them all. This group started as a training ride group for a charity ride to support the American Diabetes Association. Now it's a social/fitness group supporting a healthier lifestyle, both in mind and in body. Truth is, it's a motivator for me (Captain Kent) to commit to riding every weekend, regardless of the weather!
Starting in March, we will begin to have weekly Saturday morning bike rides, supporting easy, 10-20 mile rides from Champoeg State Park (Newberg) or Lewis and Clark State Park (Troutdale OR). Our rides are self supporting - riders are expected to bring their own water, snacks, repair kits, etc. New riders will learn "the basics" from the experienced riders who are happy to share their knowledge.
As bike season truly begins in May, we'll start posting event rides hosted by the various bike club and charities in the Portland OR area. As our membership grows, all members will have the ability to post rides in different areas of town (such as Champoeg State Park, or the Banks-Vernonia trail).
This meetup costs $25 a month to run. Although I don't charge membership dues, I will call upon the membership to donate to various worthy charities that I support during the course of the season instead. It's all honor system, with my gratitude.

See all- Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life at Petal PedalThe Oregon Garden, Silverton , OR
This is a joint event - ride with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation folks at the Oregon Petal Pedal event. Short version: this will give you free registration to Petal Pedal if you raise $250 toward Cystic Fibrosis.
From the CF website:
Join us for our annual CF Cycle for Life event, now in partnership with ORbike's Petal Pedal ride! By participating, you have the power to change lives and bring us closer to a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF). Your support helps fund critical research and care for those living with CF. Now is the time to act, and together, we can accelerate progress.
How It Works:
To make the most of this experience, we ask that every cyclist prepares physically and commits to raising the fundraising minimum of $250 (or more!) to support our mission. Once you reach the fundraising minimum, you'll receive a code for free registration to ORbike's Pedal Petal event. At the event, CFF cyclists will be treated to a VIP experience.

From the organizer's website. Event registration required.
The annual Gorge Ride sponsored by the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway. Beginning at the Gorge Discovery Center, 5000 Discovery Drive, in The Dalles, Oregon. It extends 19.25 miles along the historic highway and State Trail west to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead, just east of Hood River.
The terrain really isn’t as tough as it looks on this elevation profile -- the HCRH was built with no grades exceeding 5%. When you encounter a hill, just ‘gear down’, take it one pedal stroke at a time, and remember that it’s taking you to a view even nicer than the ones on the way up! The variety of scenery is amazing!
This route is a combination of historic highway that is open to motor vehicles, with very low traffic, and the HCRH State Trail that is open only to hikers and bicyclists. It's an out and back route of 38.5 miles. This ride is supported with water stops, snacks, mechanical support and SAG wagons. Maps with cue sheet and elevation chart are provided.
