Note: Due to the summer time, I have to reschedule it for August. Hope this leave us also more time to read the book!

📚 What We Are Reading This July:

  • Unmasking AI: Part memoir, part scientific exposé, this book details the journey of uncovering the racial and gender biases baked into modern facial recognition software and the urgent fight for algorithmic justice.
  • Dr. Joy Buolamwini: The author of Unmasking AI, a pioneering computer scientist, and digital activist based at the MIT Media Lab. She is the founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, dedicated to protecting human rights in the age of AI.

👥 Who Should Join:

  • Anyone curious about technology's impact on society.
  • You don't need a deep tech background, just a willingness to share what you've learned, discovered, and found insightful!

👀 What to Expect:

  • For now, we are hosting one online meeting every two months.
  • Amsterdam local update: We are open to having a physical meetup in Amsterdam if enough people can join. DM me if you'd be open for an in-person session!

📖 Book Selections & Our Rotation Strategy:
At the end of each session, I publish new book recommendations submitted by members who joined. Feel free to share yours before or during the event! I try to actively rotate between genres to keep things diverse:

  • Tech History / Geopolitics: Chip War by Chris Miller (Previously)
  • Tech and the Economy: Empire of AI by Karen Hao (Previously)
  • Ethics & Society: Unmasking AI by Dr. Joy Buolamwini (Current Selection)
