Using personas to understand workflows and user needs is a widespread practice among product teams. But can this approach be effectively replicated in the Contech sector? What if there is another way?

The fable of the blind men and an elephant illustrates how half-truths and misunderstandings can stem from limited experiences. This paradox is particularly relevant to the Contech industry.

Since joining Autodesk in 2019, Iria Carreira has been working as a Senior Product Manager. While it is standard practice for product teams to use personas to understand problems and workflows, Iria has found this approach to be problematic, especially when scaling products globally. Personas in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry are fluid and inconsistent.

In this Built Tech event, we will explore the challenges of using personas in Contech and discuss alternative strategies. Join us to delve into the complexities of personas in construction compared to other industries and uncover new approaches to better understand and address user needs.

Iria Carreira is a Senior Product Manager at Autodesk with over 15 years of experience in AECO technology. She is passionate about the intersection between technology, innovation, and the built environment. As a Senior Product Manager at Autodesk, Iria has crafted solutions to address user problems. Now at Tandem, she brings her expertise in digital twins technology, IoT, sustainable design, and BIM implementation.

Prior to her career in technology, Iria spent +10 years working on digital transformation, change management, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the built environment industry. She specialized in driving high-profile construction projects to deliver efficiencies and minimize project risks by using digital tools and delivering enriched 3D data models to private companies for Operations and Maintenance purposes.

Iria has worked with clients such as Google, TfL, FCA, Cancer Research, UBS Bank, AON, and others. She has also taught construction technology at universities in Spain and Denmark and participated in multiple government projects across Europe to advance Contech innovations.
