Break down silos and solve complex business problems with Event Storming
Product, BAs, Software Engineers, QA roles will all benefit from participating in this collaborative processJoin us in this hands-on workshop!
Event Storming is a format where a cross-functional group models a line of business or process in terms of business events.
This is for you if you (and your organisation) has some of these problems:- Lack of Shared Understanding Brings business and technical stakeholders together using a common language: Domain events (written in post it notes!).
- Unclear or Complex Scope Ideal at project kick-off to define scope, reduce ambiguity, etc.
- Identifying Gaps & Inefficiencies Visual workflows make bottlenecks, duplicate steps, or missing decisions evident, enabling improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration Breaks down silos with collaborative approaches to system understanding.
- Legacy System Discovery Helps deep dive into existing systems by surfacing undocumented behaviours through domain events.
In this two hour hands-on workshop we will model a small domain. Should give you a flavour of what is possible

Thanks to Amir Mohtasebi and TradeMe for hosting us! - Tech Waka Architecture Kata #2Ask Nicely Office - B:HIVE, Smales Farm , Auckland
Join us for an engaging and hands-on Architecture Kata session designed for technology leaders and software architects, who want to elevate their solution design and systems thinking skills.
The Architectural Katas were born out of a simple desire: software architects need a chance to practice being software architects, just as programmers need a chance to practice being programmers.
In this 90-minute collaborative challenge, you’ll work in small groups to tackle a fictional—but realistic—architecture problem. Together, you’ll explore trade-offs, discuss different approaches, and design a solution under time pressure—just like in real life. The session is facilitated, fast-paced, and focused on practical learning.
Why join?
- Learn from and with other senior technologists
- Improve your decision-making and architectural thinking
- Practice articulating and defending your design choices
- Get fresh perspectives you can apply to real work
- Build connections with other NZ tech leaders
This kata activity will stretch your skills and spark fresh ideas.
If you want to learn more about architecture katas, you can find more info HERE.This event is facilitated by Andrea Magnorsky and David Sickmiller, and it's sponsored and hosted by Ask Nicely.
